Greetings JumpStart Friends:
I am reaching out and asking for your prayers. This Sunday I will be taking the Senior Board of First Baptist Church of Downey through Session Seven of Volume One, and the Jethro/Moses Mentoring Model found in Section Two of JumpStart Mentor Training.
I am proposing to the Board that beginning in early 2018 we:
Preach through JumpStart during the Sunday Service.
Use JumpStart in the Sunday School for discussion.
Begin new Small Groups.
Invite leaders and future leaders to enter a mentoring relationship.
Prepare the way for a new member assimilation process.
During our first meeting one of the Senior Board commented that doing JumpStart would raise the expectation level upon the congregation. People would be asked to do more than listen. I laughed and shared my experience in Africa when I asked Dion Robert what he did with people who did not wish to partake of the training. His answer was simple, "Nothing." People go through six months of training before baptism. Then they go through six more months of training before they are commissioned for service. This is not for pastors. It is for all the people. They believe all God's people are called to minister and it the job of Pastors to lead and train them.
Pray with me God opens the door for JumpStart in Downey. The thought of preaching through the sixteen topics is super exciting. The possibility of people discussing the material in groups opens wide doors for the Holy Spirit to move. A discussion format opens the door for:

1 Corinthians 14:24-25 (ESV)
But if all prophesy,
and an unbeliever or outsider enters,
he is
convicted by all,
he is called to account by all,
the secrets of his heart are disclosed,
and so,
falling on his face,
he will worship God
and declare that God is really among
you.
I would love to see a fresh season of soul winning and disciple making. I would love to see God release His gifts and His freedom in Downey! Pray that God gives me grace, wisdom, and the right words. Pray God uses me to His glory in Downey. It is a great church, with an amazing past. I pray God gives them a fresh vision for an even greater future!
Shalom,
Paul
